Program Development

The Humanitarian and Education Programme for Myanmar (HERM) was developed as a response to the urgent need for sustainable education, skill-building, and infrastructure support in Myanmar’s underserved communities. Recognizing that traditional aid models alone are not sufficient for long-term change, HERM integrates humanitarian efforts with private sector expertise to create a well-rounded and impactful initiative.

HERM  is co-led by Sabrina Johnston and Yula Yu, two passionate advocates for education and sustainable development. With their extensive experience in international development, social entrepreneurship, and grassroots community engagement, they have shaped HERM into a program that not only provides immediate relief but also fosters long-term empowerment.

Our Development Approach

HERM was built on a three-pillar approach that ensures every initiative we implement is sustainable, scalable, and community-driven:

1) Needs Assessment & Community Engagement

We conduct in-depth assessments to understand the specific needs of the communities we serve.

Local leaders, educators, and families play an active role in shaping the programs, ensuring cultural relevance and effectiveness.

2) Private-Public Collaboration

We bridge the gap between corporations, NGOs, and government agencies to pool resources and expertise for maximum impact.

Our partners provide financial support, mentorship programs, and industry-specific training to help beneficiaries gain practical skills and career opportunities.

3) Capacity-Building & Long-Term Sustainability

HERM invests in building self-sustaining systems, such as local teacher training programs and community-run vocational centers.

By equipping individuals with the tools to become self-reliant, we ensure the impact of our initiatives lasts beyond initial funding cycles.

Our Future Plans

Looking ahead, HERM is committed to expanding its reach and impact. Our future plans include:

  • Scaling Our Education Initiatives: Expanding scholarship opportunities and digital learning platforms to reach more students in remote areas.

  • Launching New Vocational Training Centers: Partnering with businesses to create job-specific training programs that align with the evolving economy.

  • Strengthening Private Sector Collaboration: Enhancing partnerships with private corporations to bring innovative solutions and long-term investment into Myanmar’s rural development projects.

  • Expanding Community-Based Programs: Implementing new initiatives focusing on women's empowerment, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.

  • Building Sustainable Infrastructure: Developing self-sustaining schools and community centers powered by renewable energy and locally sourced resources.

Why HERM Matters

HERM is more than just a humanitarian initiative—it is a movement toward creating a self-sufficient and educated society. By leveraging the expertise of the private sector alongside the passion and dedication of humanitarian organizations, we ensure that every individual in our target communities has access to the resources and opportunities needed to thrive.
